On Saturday Balga SC Under 18s traveled to Swan Italian Club to take on Swan United in the preliminary round of the Coolridge Cup. For the under 18s, this was to be their first competitive match. The boys were extremely keen for the season to start as they had been working hard on the training paddock.
The game kicked off with a high tempo from Balga and their efforts were rewarded early on with a goal. By the 25th minute Balga were up 3-0 with Cier Mayoum securing his hat-trick. The lads were playing an attractive form of football and full of confidence. It was a shame the half had to end. As the second half got underway, it was clear Balga had dropped the intensity but were still the better side with their high pressing of Swan backed up by playing out from the back. With this drop in performance Swan were able to pull a goal back as a mix up at the back left their striker 1 on1 with the keeper. This proved to be a consolation goal as Balga once again picked up their play & scored a 4th & final goal with 10 minutes remaining.
Balga SC Under 18s coach Wayne Courtney is happy about last week’s result and is keen to see the current form continue into the next match. “Overall I was extremely pleased with the way we played and executed what we had been working hard on at training. Our next match is on Monday against Quinns and the lads are looking to build upon last weeks result” he said.
