Last weekend’s game saw the Balga Division 3 Metro team take on the boys from Whitford Football Club at Warrandyte Reserve. An early kick-off of 9am made for an interesting start to the game for Balga starting with 10 men for the first 5 minutes.
A youthful Whitford side took the game to Balga from the kick-off and before long registered their first shot on goal. Whitford continued to control the game until a well flighted ball over the top from Daniel Krebs saw Chris Searle take a touch and finish past the Whitford keeper.
The remainder of the half saw the Balga backline peppered with Whitford opportunities. Some great keeping from Drew Brookes in goal kept Balga in the game until a last minute shot snuck in the far post after some great attacking intent from Whitfords.
A change of formation at half time saw Balga quickly get back into the game. Daniel Krebs moved from the backline up front which quickly paid dividends as a goal kick from Matt Dudek saw Krebs rounding the keeper without a Whitford player touching the ball.
A tense 30 minutes followed as both teams evenly battled before a poachers finish from Troy Hart saw the win for Balga.
This Sunday Balga welcome Balcatta FC to Princess Wallington Reserve at 1PM.
