In round two of the Football West State Night Series Balga SC take on Joondalup City tonight at 6:30pm.
In last weekend’s encounter Balga SC kicked off the 2016 Night Series campaign with a win over Kingsway Olympic. Early dominance was quickly rewarded with Jono McGahern putting Balga ahead in the 8th minute. Balga continued to threaten but were unable to convert their chances and make their dominance count. Kingsway struck back just before the half time whistle to draw equal.
In the second half Balga continued to threaten but were left exposed in defense a number of times. New signing and the first team custodian Elhossain Atekhis stood tall and repelled the Kingsway advances. Half way through the second half, new signing Hubert Hakizimana secured all 3 points for Balga with a delightful strike at the near post.
Balga’s next opponent Joondalup were up 2:1 throughout much of the first half against Ashfield but the hosts were more clinical in front of goal and scored 3 unanswered to finish the game 4:2.
With the first major hurdle of the preseason passed, Balga should go into the game against Joondalup full of confidence.
Balga SC reserves take on Perth SC reserves at Maccabean Memorial Oval (61 Woodrow Avenue, Yokine) at 4pm today. This will be a stern test for the reserves side against a benchmark of football teams in the state.
