Trevor Allen Award

Best and Fairest, First Team

Trevor is a founding member of Balga SC and has served on the Balga SC committee for over 20 years.

During his exceptional service to Balga SC, Trevor has acted in many roles including the role of Treasurer from 1994 to 2003, President from 2004 to 2005 and he was also the Bar Manager for many years.

Apart from having the First Team Best and Fairest award named in his honour, the bar at Balga SC is also named after him and is lovingly referred to as the Trevor Allen Bar.

Trevor can still be seen at most home games sitting on the verandah and supporting his beloved Balga team.

Pete Duggan Award

Best and Fairest, Reserves Team

Pete has been a player at Balga SC since the early 70’s. Pete was a strong defender who won most of his battles and liked to win.

Pete has served on the Balga SC committee for many years including 4 years as President, from 1998 to 2001. Famously, he was part of a back line which had a combined age of just on 200 years in a game away to Geraldton.

Pete can still be seen on a game day standing on the sidelines supporting his Balga team.

Lisa Lamb Award

Best and Fairest, Women’s Team

Lisa has played over 10 years for the Balga SC Women’s team and has been awarded the Best Player in her last season. Although she was a late comer to football she has always shown everyone that she had the heart and the tenacity to succeed.

Lisa has always been on hand to mentor the younger players and has been much loved for her bubbly personality.Last year she missed the season due to injury however we’re looking forward to her comeback in the new year.

Sonya Shorto Award

Club Person of the Year

Sonya Shorto was born in November 1975. After many years spent watching her Dad play for Balga SC Sonya decided it was time for her to join in and put on the boots for the Women’s team. Sonya had a very successful start to her footballing career and picked up the Runner Up Best and Fairest award in her first season.

In the following years she continued to excel and won no less than 6 awards picking up awards in 97, 98, 02, 04, 05 and 06.

Sonya’s involvement wasn’t just confined to the playing field and she involved herself in all aspects of the club. From the time she started playing she was a committee member and went on to become the Junior Vice President.

Sonya’s passion for the juniors was immense and with her leadership, drive and hard work our junior numbers quickly doubled.

Sonya passed away on the 15th October 2006 the day after the trophy night. She was a great ambassador for this club & a much loved Mum, Daughter, Sister, Aunty & Friend. Her work will long be remembered from everyone who had the pleasure to meet and work with her.

The Sonya Shorto Award for the Club Person of the Year is presented to a member of the Balga SC family whom demonstrates leadership, determination, courage, drive and is an Ambassador of everything we at Balga SC strive to be. They show immense passion and determination to enhance Balga Social and Soccer Club’s standing in the wider community.
