On a sunny Sunday afternoon Balga’s Metro team welcomed neighbours Balcatta to Princess Wallington Reserve for their round 4 clash. Balcatta were first to adapt to the conditions and needed only 4 minutes to take the lead, capitalising on a defensive error from the Balga side.
Although largely outplayed, Balga created numerous chances and easily could have been leading if not for poor finishing. However, it was Balcatta that managed to nip a second goal just 5 minutes before the halftime whistle.
The second half saw a different Balga side take the field. A more purposeful and hungrier Balga. It was through their persistence and pressure they were awarded a penalty moments after the restart that was duly dispatched by Alex Dudek.
Balcatta quickly struck back with a long range effort from outside the box hitting the top corner of the net. Balga were undeterred and quickly responded back with 2 goals of their own. First Alex Dudek again and then Chris Searle pouncing on a defensive mistake to draw the two teams level.
With 15 minutes to go Daniel Krebs took the ball on the left wing and beat 3 players before slotting the ball into the bottom corner of the goal to give Balga the lead for the first time in the match. This proved to be pivotal moment with Balga holding out to remain undefeated in 2018.
Balga Metro team next travel to Carine Open Space on Sunday, 6 May 2018, where they face Hamersley Rovers SC.
