Balga SC 18s make the perfect start to the 2016 season overcoming a gallant Quinns FC side 3:2.
On Saturday Balga SC 18’s welcomed Quinns to Princess Rd Reserve. As football is a winter sport it was only apt that our match started in the rain. The early stages were dominated by Quinns and they got their reward with an early goal.
To their credit, the lads never dropped their heads and started playing good football which was quickly rewarded with 2 well taken goals. Once again Quinns picked up the tempo looking for an equalizer, which they eventually did get. Not to be outdone, Balga again took the initiative and scored their 3rd before half time.
The 2nd half was a very tight affair with both teams coming close to adding to the scoreboard. With 15 minutes to go Quinns launched a final onslaught looking for an equalizer but Balga held on stoutly to take the win 3:2.
The goal scorers were Najib Rahimi (x2) and Cier Mayoum (x1). To come away with all 3 points from the opening fixture will be a huge boost for the team and send a message to the rest of the league that Balga are not here just to make up the numbers but are be genuine title contenders.
Balga SC take on Melville City FC in Round 2 of the Football West All Flags State League Division 2 on Saturday 16 April 2016 at Len Shearer Reserve, Marcus Avenue, Booragoon.
